i own a pimping 1992 mercedes 190E 2.0

at 75 -85 mph the car makes a noise like a lancaster bomber is flying over the roof.

poss suggestions from other people i know are :

that i have a crack in the plastic on the front grille?

my exhaust back drafts the tail pipe at certain speeds?

i have checked the wheel bearings and brakes, they are fine...!

i had a local non merc guy check the exhaust, he said it is new and fitted correctly

the car itself is in awsome condidtion. high mileage but only used for long holidays driving round europe.
looks like new, full service history, all reciepts one family owner and a big list of added accessories

love the car but the humming noise is driving me nutz

please help

hi gareth

as you state that the noise is at a certain speed i would suspect it to be the diff or prop shaft center bearing.
see if the noise alters if you lift off the throttle at the speed you said this could point to the diff
you could try changing the gearbox and diff oils and while you are under the car see if you feel any lift in the propshaft center bearing

hope you get it sorted
