Smoking Brakes!!

I have a pleasant drive home every night and can go 2 different ways, both usually have a little bit of traffic and are poor A roads. Tonight i got lucky and had the twistier(sp) road to myself as i was a little bit late!

Now the question! Is it unusual to have smoke cominig out of your front wheels after 10 miles of enthusiastic driving in an A150?

If so, should i change the discs and pads to aftermarket ones, bearing in mind i'm only keeping the car another year or so.

Make sure if you change the pad compound then change the discs too..new compound = new disc. I expect you woudl be ok with a good pagid pad with new o/e merc discs

Thumbs up for Pagids from me Dave, I had them on my VXT and they were superb. Not expensive either.

A change to dot 5.1 brake fluid could also be a good idea.

Smoking brakes are compulsory on my car! Seriously though, are the pads seized in the caliper? Not sure of the brake set up on your model. My brakes were in a terrible condition WITH full MBSH. Sorted them out myself and now they are fantastic for a road car, and not too bad on track either.

Probably, but regardless of that you deserve a medal for driving an A150 enthusiastically!

Change your pads to Pagid RS14, I had them on my SLK55AMG, long-lasting, mountain-up-and-down resistant,still good when cold, even in winter.

Well i have changed to EBC grooved and dimpled discs, with green stuff pads and also had the calipers looked at last week and can report that they are, after 500 miles, better, just! Had the same drive today and had a fair bit of heat, but no smoke, so looking good so far......
