Wrote this up on another website but it took ages so here's a short version.

Took a brand new Astra, put 1300 miles on it.
Stuttgart is really far. 2 days there 2 days back = 24 hours only in Stuttgart.
Enough time for factory tour and Merc & Porsche museums.
German people friendly and speak English.

Fair enough. My better half lives around an hour away so have a lovely drive through the black Forest to get there. I visited the Merc museum last sumer and hope to do the Porsche one this summer. Looks like you were lucky with the weather too.

Well it's 7 and a tiny bit from the Loerrach area (Swiss/French boarder) where my girlfriend lives to Calais but then again I mainly travel in the wee hours of the morning when the French/Belgium/Luxemburg police seem to all be asleep scratchchin

Either way, I'm looking forward to going back to Stuttgart

I wasn't lucky with the weather really. It was freezing with a bit of rain, and when we found out we could not make Stuttgart in 6 hours; we had to stop somewhere so went for a hotel at the 'ring. Which when we got nearer was covered in snow and the ABS was going mad on the roads. Then obviously no cars ran round the ring in the snow so that was a waste of time and we just continued to Stuttgart in the morning!!

On the return we stayed overnight in Bonn which is pretty nice. The Germans have very good hotel breakfasts so worth the trip for that.

Amongst my pics did you spot -
the silver S class, Arnold Schwarzenegger's.
The Red SL H-reg Princess Diana's
The black B reg 190 Ringo Starr's
The 190 Evo 1 which was for sale
All there at your fingertips which is quite nice.

Porsche won't take you half as long as the Merc museum. But they have a brilliant showroom opposite which is nice to wander in. Best to go with a friend with whom you can discuss which model/spec you would pick. For me it's a cream 997 on sensible wheels and something like green inside.
