C Class new Engines Info req'd
Discussion
Hi All,
I understand that the current engined C Class cars are now out of production and that the new 'twin turbo' diesels are currently being manufactured awaiting roll out etc. Anyone in the know when the new C220/C320 will be available for delivery and have any info on the new engines/changes etc.? is the C320 also going to be twin turbo'd?
Also anyone run one of these and give me their opinion?
Many thanks.

The new engines are going to be a 250cdi which is IIRC 204hp, and a 350cdi which is a V6 and about 234bhp. Both of which are twin turbo and lower emssions than the current 220cdi and 320cdi engines, they are replacing. I have just been given my 1st allocation of the 250cdi engines on July production, for July/August delivery.I understand that the current engined C Class cars are now out of production and that the new 'twin turbo' diesels are currently being manufactured awaiting roll out etc. Anyone in the know when the new C220/C320 will be available for delivery and have any info on the new engines/changes etc.? is the C320 also going to be twin turbo'd?

I haven't yet driven one, but the new E-Saloon and Coupe are being delivered to dealers over the next couple of weeks and the engines will be in those, so a drive in them might give you an idea what the power delivery/noise level etc. is going to be like.
I must admit to being a massive fan of the C-Class, I have had 3/4 New Shape C-Class saloons now and they have all been a joy to drive. It's the 1st Merc in a long time that you can actually drive, rather than waft around in. I think the current line-up's got the edge on the 3-series and A4's.
Thanks Matc.
I've just been for a blat in the C220, not been in a Merc before and have to say I was quite impressed with the drivability/handling of the C-Class. I did however not like the clattery top end of the C220, much preferring the C320 with the 7 speed auto. Way better than BMW and Audi.
Wanted to know when the new ones were official, any changes to the styling?

Don't know if the same applies to C Class, but there's still going to be an E220CDi.I know what you mean about the 4cylinder sounding a bit rattly at the top end, the 250cdi is supposed to be greatly improved, but tstill wont be a patch on the 320/350cdi engines.
There aren't any styling changes due; there are 2 new colours and a couple of very minor changes to the instrument cluster (a light to show when headlights/foglights are activated); there is a new design key!! and a change to the pricing of a couple of options - also the introduction of a reversing camera as an option (not really worth the money on such a small car IMO, especially if you have parktronic).
One of the interesting things to note is that they are reducing the prices across the range when they launch the new engines. There are some great finance deals on the outgoing engines, and if they you don't want finance then you can have a cash incentive this coming weekend.

Blimey, that's a huge surprise - especially with the all the moaning and groaning about the strength of the Euro. Any indication how much it'll drop?W204 does look stupidly expensive, especially if you stick some options on it. I have a well equipped 4.5yr old C270CDi estate but the cost to change it is bonkers.

Thanks matc, the financing deals were what got me in the showroom, but none on the C320 (yet? I think they're all the same capacity, with mechanical differences to each model, is that right? The 200cdi being a cheapened and worsened 220 and the 250 has blueeffeciency (or is that another model altogether?).
All models are all going to Blue efficiency now evidently. Merc is going all eco...

No worries....as you said nothing on the C320cdi yet, not sure what the stock level is like, but I'm sure there will be some incentive to sell them pretty soon. There is a cash alternative to the finance deal for cars sold between the 8th & 11th May, but only on selected engines; I'll have a look tomorrow to find out just how much.

Found this on web about new petrols and diesels
The two gasoline engines are turbocharged and direct injected. Both displace 1.8 liters. The more powerful version makes 201 hp, which isn't much shy of a typical V-6's output and is enough to send the E250 CGI from 0 to 62 mph in a not too shabby 7.7 seconds. With its five-speed automatic, the E250 CGI is rated at 32 mpg (combined city/highway, European test procedures). Its lesser powered but more economical sibling is good for 181 hp and is a full second slower to 62 mph, but returns 35 mpg in the E200 CGI, which has a standard six-speed manual.
The diesels, however, are even more impressive. The three four-cylinder units are all the same size: 2.1 liters, and all three are turbocharged (naturally) and use common-rail direct injection. Output of the three engines varies much more in torque than in horsepower. The E200 CDI, with only a single-stage turbocharger, is rated at 266 lb-ft of torque. The E220 CDI upgrades to a dual-stage turbo and musters 295 lb-ft of torque. The E250 CDI pumps out a V-8-like 369 lb-ft. Interestingly, all three diesels achieve the same, 44 mpg combined fuel economy rating, with their standard six-speed manual gearbox.

does anyone have any new info on the new engines or deals on the outgoing models. i was going to buy a c220 sport on their finance offer but having read this thread i may wait now for the engines if theyre going to be cheaper. mat do you have any news?
Sorry Shan, only just read this!! I'll have a look tomorrow how much they've reduced the new engines by. I think the current offer with the finance deal will still make them cheaper than the new engines.matc said:

Any news....???
Sorry....Right the range has been reduced by about 5% across the board; the C350 has the biggest reduction at 6.9% to compensate for the cease of production of the C280. This means the list prices for the diesel Sports are:
- C220cdi Sport (170 bhp)- £27,758.40
- C250cdi Sport (204 hbp)- £28,813.40
- C350cdi Sport (224 bhp)- £32,620.00
IMO the best option is still the current finance deal on the 220cdi, this engine isn't changing in power, just gaining the 'blueefficieny' rating, so you won't really be gaining anything by hanging on. I'm fairly certain the deals won't continue in Q3 because stock levels are so low, so now is a pretty good time to get out and buy one.
Still no news on the C320cdi being added to the finance deal unfortunately.
