190E - What wheels?

Together with lowered suspension, I am looking at getting some different wheels for my 190E.

I have been thinking about AMG Monoblocks, but they seem hard to get hold of.

Would something like these look ridiculous?




If I don't get the Monoblocks, I am thinking of some sort of black wheels, but none of those gaudy crappy wheels you get in Halfords.


Any recommendations? I am not planning on Chavving it, just making it look a bit different without ruining the car.

I have some Fuchs forged W211 E class wheels on mine, only because they weigh next to nothing.

I'd suggest you have a look at the 190e owners website and look at what others have fitted.

If you're going for new wheels, don't go too big. I would recommend 16" or 17".

Those black ones look a little too "busy" and fussy for the simple, solid design of the 190 - but that's just my opinion.
I would recommend going for one of the main tuners - Brabus, Carlsson, AMG, Lorinser - for some alloys.
If you can't find anything in the UK, try German ebay - they always have a good selection.

I am keen on split rims - but expensive aren't they. Also they don't really fill the arches. AMG monos are nice but a bit common.
Plenty of newer Mercedes alloys seem to fit and look okay, and they're cheapish too. But don't look perfect IMO.
I think the important thing is to get them to sit right. Every 190 I've seen on 17s or even 18s sits sky-high like some off roader - looks bks unless it's lowered, which I am sure shags all the suspension.

Thanks for the replies,

I am currently wondering if it's more worthwhile saving and buying a 2.6 though, and upgrading that instead.

Thanks for the posts about the wheels though, I intend to have a Mercedes 190 for a while yet so the replies are still helpful!

I think, could be wrong though, a 2.6 is a bit lower. Therefore it would suit some bling wheels slightly better. Reason enough right there!
Watch out for mpg on the 2.6, it's criticised in the original road tests...
You're looking at worse mpg than a 2.3-16 or 2.5-16, not surprisingly being a bigger, less efficient design.

These are nice but again, it's probably better lowered (or maybe smaller rim with higher profile tyres?).




But Evos and Scoobies seem to be able to get away with smallish wheels and quite high suspension. What's the trick? hmm
