1991 MB 230 TE hunting at idle

My faithful J reg 230TE has recently started to hunt on idle - most annoying. Any ideas? suspect fuel injection -maybe a shot of something in the petrol?

Not really uncommon and not really easy to solve that one. It should be at least capable of idling okay at that age.
How much does it hunt, 700-2000 rpm? Or just a few hundred revs?
Any other odd/new behaviour? Low idle cold? High idle warm? Does it only do it cold or hot?

I believe that, unlike the later cars, the early M103 engines have an idle control valve. I'd start there
