How difficult can it be to buy a Mercedes?!
Discussion
My father-in-law asked for my help to get him a new (or nearly new) Mercedes GL or ML from a Mercedes dealer.
We eventually reached agreement with a dealer on a nearly new GL that we had seen on the approved used website, but when we went to pick the car up, they had not prepared it for delivery (despite having over a weeks notice) and the condition of the car was way below what I would have expected. The sales manager agreed that it was not good and refunded our deposit.
Having spent some time thinking about it, we then decided to focus our attention on a new ML (most likely a ML 280 CDI). On the basis that we were not that bothered about the spec, we thought that we would see if any dealers could offer a good deal on a stock car. The first dealer I spoke to advised that they didn't need to discount cars as Mercedes were selling very well. The second dealer I spoke to said that they would only consider a slight reduction if my father-in-law came to visit them in person (despite the fact that I was ready to put a deposit down on his behalf).
I am starting to think that we should just go and buy something else. I have recent experience with both Audi and BMW and I have found them to be a little more realistic. I have just bought a new BMW X5 for my wife and the garage gave me an extremely good discount for a car built to our spec and they looked after us very well.
I am sure that I have just been unlucky, but I just wanted to vent my frustration and see if anybody has had similar experience.
