changing number plate on 1997 E class

Hi all,

My mum's 1997 E class failed it's MOT based on the fact that the number plate had a honeycomb behind, which is apparently illegal. I have new ones, but am not sure how to change the plates. It doesn't have an obvious screw on it. Any ideas?

I was under the opinion that the background of a plate was only a MOT fail if registered on or after 1 September 2001.

but you will probably find the plate is attached using double sided tape and can usually be pulled away.
