SLK Headlight Condensation

Just been quoted three trillion quid by MB to replace the headlight seals on the Countess's '98 SLK 230 to stop condensation inside both headlight lenses.

Okay, the quote was actually £289, but it can't be that difficult? Can it?

Anyone been this way before? Any views welcome. I mean, I've bought quite reasonable cars for less.

if you are a bit handy with a spanner try taking the lights out yourself and remove the bulbs. dry them out overnight in airing cupboard or near a radiator.then get yourself a seal gun from b&q and some bathroom sealer and run a small bead around the lens to lamp area and let dry.
it may take you a day or two but shouldnt cost you more than £20.its all mb will do anyway

Hi - I had the same issue on an '01 SLK320 and did it myself. Not too tricky, and I'm not a natural DIY-er. Gaskets cost £30. Search on Benzworld, lots of tips on how to do it, plus diagrams (you may have to register to see those). The originals were brittle and fell apart when removed.

So, if the gaskets are £30 and the job was quoted as £289, I'm guessing it's fairly labour intensive. Or was I wearing my Here Comes an Eejit t-shirt when I asked?
