the car in question is a 2001 clk 230 cabriolet always been a good reliable car but has just start playing up.
1. if you open the boot the fan on the radiator starts, if you pull the boot open sensor out a bit the fan stops, also i have noticed that the switch in the centre console does not illuminate. if i pull the wires off the back of the sensor in the boot the fan will stop and the centre console switch will illuminate. i am going to replace the sensor in the boot but i can't work out how the radiator fan can be affected by this. also if the boot is open and you remove the ignition key the steering lock doesn't engage (well it doesn't make that electronic sliding noise) but as soon as you shut the boot it engages.
2. i think that this next problem is linked to the first. start car, turn on lights everything is fine. turn off ignition and remove key but leave lights on and engine still runs! turn off lights and engine stops.
i am not quite sure where to start with this one, may be i shouldn't park it to close to my TVR!! as this would be a very normal thing for a TVR too do. the only other thing to mention is that the car has just come out of the paint shop it was in for some small work on the bonnet and boot hatch, i spoke to the painter and he said that he didn't need to disconnect any wires but it does seem a bit of a coinsoidence, could he have put something back on wrong?
any help or pointers would be appreciated.

Signal acquisition module (SAM) basically a control unit that controls certain functions of the car. There are typically 2/3 front(s) & rear on a Merc.
Not going to attempt to diagnose an electrical fault over the interweb but my advice would be to take it STRAIGHT back to the body shop at which it came IF it wasn't acting up before. In my head, they are controlled by completely different control units so it makes no logical sense, however whenever do electrical faults.
Considering that the fault seems to be stemming from the boot switch & you've had something related to the boot been repaired chances are something has been done by them.
