De Restricted SL55

Hi, Still very new to PH but enjoying the experience. My SL55 which I picked up last week is de restricted 
, supposedly by Mercedes. It is a one owner car (2003) and has 16k on the clock (quite a find I thought for the weekend jaunt with the roof down) I spoke to the chap that owned it previously who confirmed it is de restricted. How can I check this other that the obvious call Mercedes (they were very unhelpful and wanted me to send them proof off ownership and all my personal details before they would speak with me!!) I really don’t want to be on a MB database until it needs a service in 9k miles.
Also what does de restricted add to the car? Is it just top end or does it free up the rev range, quicker acceleration at all? My apologies if I sound dense this is my first Merc.

shouldnt affect acceleration unless remapped at same time as derestricted, may rev a little higher. Not sure a rolling road will allow you to go that fast but that way you could check if the limiter kicks in at 155, otherwise you need to come to vmax, you should see about 180mph through the speed traps, probably showing about 185 on speedo, cracking car, enjoy it.
The so-called "hard" restrictor works just like the the driver-set speed limiter, except that in restricted cars it is always there. The power runs out at 250km/h (155mph).
Many so-called de-restricted cars simply have the restrictor raised to 300km/h (186mph).
To see if your car is de-restricted, get up early on Sunday morning see if it will do more than 155mph. If up particularly early, see if it will do more than 186mph.

Hi Gavin, A derestricted factory car will have the limiter lifted to 186mph
as mentioned before. It will also be fitted with higher speed rated tyres, you should have a doc in the hand pack confirming this, also, inside the petrol flap
is an extra sticker giving different tyre pressures etc.
The car does not have any extra bhp.However DMS will do that for you.
