pleny of these around at decent prices at the moment , having never owned a M.B. before, do these cars have any major issues ?
any engines that should be avoided ?

2010 is classic le mans time, i think this could be the car to take, luxury euro cruiser, would you recommend these cars ?

thanks in advance

They're great. Get a 500. Costs the same to run as the 280 and 320, goes like stink. Buy on condition and originality. Various very minor issues but all should be sorted by now.

Surprised the 500 costs the same to run as 280/320... would've thought those being straight 6 cylinder cars would be somewhat less complex, fewer banks/cylinder heads, few cylinders, fewer spark plugs and exhaust manifolds, less weight, better fuel economy and so on. Wonder if it is lighter - feel like weight is the 500's achilles heel?

Fuel consumption and insurance is pretty much the same across the range (with the exception of the 600). Driving style will have a much great effect on consumption than engine size; indeed a 6 might be more thirsty than an 8 in the hands of a press-on driver.

I can't see the V8 being much more to service than the I6. More spark plugs, but that is about it. It certainly isn't more difficult and both the M119 and M113 V8s are more robust than their M104 and M112 6-cylinder counterparts.
