very informative reply.... thanks....

Anything more specific?

I take it there is no point in investigating this further and get a glass roof car from scratch.

Sorry.

I did read a thread a couple of years back from across the pond where a guy priced it up over there and it was about $3K dollars at the time.

The easiest way to find out is ask the merc dealer for the cost of the roof section with panoramic roof. The painting and fitting will be cheap in comparison.

I have an sl500 with a panoramic roof-I've owned it for 2 years.I've also just sold an sl350 without a panoramic roof through my used car business.to be honest I know everybody raves about the roof but for me it wouldn't be a dealbreaker.I forget I have it on my car sometimes.in my opinion it's far better to go off the condition and history of an individual car-I could easily live without it

I agree with the comments as above. I bought mine purely on condition and mileage, it was sans panoramic roof. I`d previously driven several examples with the glass roof and formed the opinion that it was not a necessity.

My SL 55 came with a Panoramic roof but l would have preferred it if hadn't as l like the look of the plain roof. l never really 'use' it as such and always have the blinds pulled across.

'They' say it helps at resale but l'm certainly not convinced - there are more important options an SL should have than a Panoramic roof in my opinion.

I ended up with a panoramic roof but it was not one of my requirements, and to be honest, I find it a bit pointless - however you just need to be aware that if you ever look to trade the car in to a dealer, I am sure the lack of a pano roof is an area they would really try to beat you down on, just like sat nav in certain cars even though most people prefer using Tom Toms.

I think it fair to say that the above also applies when buying. The fact that mine was without the roof was indeed an object of leverage whilst bargaining.

There are a couple of cars floating around:
2002 with 12k miles for £32k.
2003 with 16k miles for £34k has dms mod.

Both look stunning but i want to be covered.

I don't have a panoramic roof on my sl55, looked at a few with and just bought the better condition car in the end. In my opinion you will sleep ok at night in the knowledge that you don't have the glass roof!
