Can anyone recommend someone to inspect a 1998 CL420, please. Car is based in Southall, Middlesex (West London). Thanks.

Ask the seller to book it into a Merc dealer for the free health check. Chelsea (Wandsworth) do it.

Is that the blue one that has been advertised on the Sales section?

Common faults on a C140 series are:

Oil leaks
Rust on wheel arches
Rust underneath bonnet lip
Delamination of front and rear windows
BAS/ASR gremlins - usually manifest themselves after motorway runs then back to urban speeds
Seatbelt pretensioners not working (they are part of SRS system)
Aircon not working (do NOT accept that it just needs a regas)
Windows not autodropping down
Front suspenion knocking over speedhumps (cannot remember the part off the top of my head)
Make sure that all warning lights come on when at position 2 - common for bulbs to...errr...be disabled!
Try every single thing on that car - there is no such thing as a cheap fix on a C140 coupe

Oh....if you have not driven the 5 litre, don't!

The CL420 is not a bad car but just underpowered - the CL500 is absolutely brilliant (ideal power, engine is extremely reliable) and the CL600...pointless and unreliable and barely faster than the 500.

Does that apply to any merc. I have looked at a CL65, it was serviced a few months ago by a dealer but funnily enough the car is near Chelsea - would they check it out foc and (more importantly) would they put a warranty on it?
