W220 S600L prices?

Hi

How much is the lowest these tend to go for? I saw one on autotrader for circa 6k (made in 2000) but I thought there must have been problems to be at that low price?

Air suspension failures
Door pump closure failures
Cam wear
Rust
ECU problems
Water leaks - leading to more ECU problems (especially in the pass footwell)
Build quality is dire
Did I mention rust
Instrumentation display failure
Rust
Myriad of electrical gremlins.

If you want a W220, buy a late 2003 build (built, not registered) or 2004 onwards.

Thanks for the advice, sounds like I should give it a wide birth. I suspected this I must admit.

The W140 is better anyway i've heard.

It is. However, while a much better built car, they are still an extremely expensive car to fix when they go wrong, and they do. The youngest of them is now 11 years old and the base model ones are pretty basic in terms of equipment. As a result, when I need a runaround I buy an LS since they are pound for pound, a better value car in terms of reliabilty and equipment levels. The ones I have owned have always been the 5 litre 500's.

Sound advice - the LS400 is the most reliable car I have ever owned, closely followed by my current E38 BMW.

I considered a W220 but heard so many expensive horror stories from existing owners I stayed away.

W220 after 2003 was a well built luxury car with a bulletproof V8 or a CDI engine which would drive into 300'000 miles no prob if serviced regularly, W220 during 2000 to 2002 had different electrics which were prone to go especially on the 362BHP V12 model. When I have the Money and the extra years NCB im gonna get a 2004-2005 S500 or S600 but only dreams at minute

There is a 2000 S600 on my drive at home which we have owned for 10+ years now... It has been very reliable. Only issue we have had recently is the battery draining. This was due to lack of use and the battery hadn't been changed in 7 years. If we were to sell it would be a £5k-£6k car as it is two owners from new, FMBSH and maintained under extended warranty throughout its life.

No rust either.
