Command satnav upgrade?
Discussion
I have a 2005 SLK55 AMG and find the satnav good except for one big frustration - the fact that you can only input the first 4 digits of a postcode
A lot of my clients live in the country and there road names usually don't show up so I can only get close to their address, not all the way to the door as I can with other satnavs. Can the system be upgraded to do a full postcode search?

The best people to talk to are Richard and Alfie at Comand www.comand.co.uk, that sounds like exactly their sort of thing.
So it won't be long before a used R171 without 'Comand' will be worth more than one with a 'stuck-in-2005-or-£1800' system?
Nice one, Mercedes. What the hell were you thinking of when you commissioned a non-upgradeable Satnav system?
Top tip for used car buyers would seem to be to check to somewhere on the Comand system which has changed since 2005 - and if the map shows the old route, tell the dealer that the deal is off unless the Comand is updated to present day mapping at his expense....

I believe the mapo can be updated - it is just the postcode recognition that can't be updated to read more than the first 4 digits which is annoying if the road you are looking for doesn't come up on the subsequent list...Nice one, Mercedes. Ah - OK, I get it now. It did seem rather bizarre that it might cost £1800 to bring the system up to date!
If you can't enter detailed postcodes into a 2005-era Comand, can you at least enter lat/long positions for isolated places such as country farms or aerodrome entrances? I find it convenient to use Google Earth to read the exact lat/long of where I need to go, then enter it directly into my Garmin nüvi and allocate a user waypoint name. Can you do this with Comand?
