Dash lights

My 02 plate (New shape SL500) has a water temp gauge that does not always work and also the illumination bulb also seems to be off when this happens. When last in for service Merc garage told me I needed a new complete dash assembly. This seems ridiculous. I suspect it is just a loose connection on the pcb. How easy does the dash speedo etc. assembly come out for me to check. Any ideas?

Official dealers will just replace with new unit, you can either take it to an indie with a good electrician or buy a reconditioned unit. I use to smack mine and often it would start working
