1999 CLK 320 not reving

My merc seems to have developed a little problem.
It wont rev past about 3.5k
When you put your foot down it looses all power.

What on earth is the matter with it?

got a 1999 slk 230 and it had similar symptoms - turned out to be the MAF sensor needed replacing.

I had the same problem on a year old E class, turned out it was a sensor that was faulty and the car went into limp mode. Only way I "fixed" it was dsconnecting the battery and it reset everything.

Merc fixed it after a while. It may have been a maf sensor.
