ML service costs please
Discussion
I've got a 270 and it's been very, very reliable. Service costs are about £3-400 a time, but it depends on mileage/driving style, rather than each year. Mine is a '04 and had 3 services. Brake pads are a diy 'cinch' as you just knock 2 pins out of the caliper and insert the pads through the outside of the caliper - no fecking around removing the caliper.
They fecking EAT rear brakes though due to the ESP system. Only major problem has been a replacement of front ball joints at £100/time.
They have a proper ladder chassis and low range box, unlike the X5 etc, so are really strong and pull very well! Retrofitting a Merc towbar is very costly, so if you need one, best to buy a car with one already fitted.

Hi
I have an 03 270cdi, had it from new and apart from niggling issues for first 6 months the car has been pretty much perfect, just passed its MoT with no problems. Servicing wise, it has been done in line with the indicator which works out about every 18 months or 17,000 miles or so. I have had it serviced 4 times, twice at main dealer and last 2 at local specialist, average cost is about £250-350 and so far (touch wood) not needed anything additional to the standard service. Mine seems to be ok on brakes but front tyres are shot in about 15-20,000. Rears lasted about 42,000 and the car has now done 69,000. All in all, been quite cheap to run (ignoring depreciation....!)
