Hi folks,
Just wondering if this is a generic snag with the C class of 1995 Vintage.
The heater is blowing constant hot out from the vents near to the windscreen despite twiddling the knobs back and forth.

Also, occasionally the low level coolant indicator comes on the instrument panel although coolant is topped up. Investigating under the bonnet reveals a sort of sensor next to the radiator cap that seems to be leaking a bit....what is this and is that the problem?

Ta in advance folks,
Mike.

Hi Mike - trust all is well.

I have just searched the MBOC C Class forums and there is no mention of specific heater issues like yours.

Could it be a combination of things ?

Coolant level sensors on the expansion tanks of Mercs are notorious for failing/giving false signals - only a few pence so might be worth changing that.

There is an issue with C Class's rad caps from the factory being rated too highly causing the expansion tanks to split if overheated. Rad repairers always recommend avoiding genuine Merc rad caps on these.

Could the dashboard heat thing just be a failed heater control 'black box' unit (the bit with the two rotary knobs)?

As an aside, knowing your penchant for all things Bavarian - you don't fancy a nice E38 740 do you ? I bought a W140 CL500 last week so my BMW's up for sale - currently got 5 cars at the moment and the wife's having apoplexy smile

I am contemplating reducing it to £2.5k ono - knocking a bit off is cheaper than a divorce smile

All the best

Nigel

Hi Nigel,

All is well thank you, hope you and family also, although can understand you having to shift some metal biggrin Nice purchase by the way.

I would love a 740 but sadly couldn't run it at the moment!

I'll get hold of a sensor, but yes, I reckon the inside heating is the control box. irked bound to be a pig of a job.....

Not a bad old shed though.

All the best,
Mike.
