Hi everyone

I have a 2004 pre facelift C270 cdi (W203) First registered Sept 2004 so one of the very last pre-facelift models.
I intend to keep the car for several more years, its already covered 115,000 motorway miles but still performs like a new car. The engine oil has been replaced regularly with 5w40 fully synthetic but when I asked MB about the transmission oil they said it doesn't need changing.
The question is I may still own the car when it's done 250,000 (living in hope)? so should I change the gearbox oil??
All advice would be welcome along with recomendations of anyone who could carry out this job in west yorkshire or Bury/Manchester area.

Thanks very much

Alex

I had the same response when I took in our CL55AMG and our C220 cdi in to our local dealer.

Have since taken them to an indie, they checked the fuild in both the gearboxes, changed and the oil and filters for me. No problem.

Showed me the fluid which wasn't too bad a little contamination but glad we did it as we intend to run them until they are scrap.

It's a longish process as the level has to be checked when the transmission oil is at within a certain temp range so it's important they have a star/xentry or a similar system that can read the gearbox.

If you need it I can check on the Mercedes workshop documentation and find the appropriate procedure.

Merc say sealed for life but there are lots of threads on mbworld about changing the transmission oil and the appropiate filter.

ATF should be changed every 40K miles or so. It's not too difficult to DIY, have a look on www.mbclub.co.uk for instructions.

The gearbox sump gaskets don't like being changed, change that for a few quid too if you're doing the filter.
