I am considering buying an E class 2005 E270cdi circa £12k, but would a 1995 E320 w124 coupe circa £7k be a better buy
I like the classic merc but does it lack the driving quality of the newer version.
The car will be my daily driver with an annual mileage of 8k.
Is there a difference in build quality with newer mercs or is this just a preception.
I would appreciate your comments

I am not a Merc owner, but I think that the stories about Tank-like build quality of W124s and much lesser build quality of newer Mercs are not unfounded.

Having said that, if buying a 15 year old W124 Coupe, you need to know what to look for.

Tank built or not, there will still be some tired old ladies out there.

If you only drive 8K a year I would question buying a diesel in the first place.

Either way, if you can find a good W124 (and there are a lot of very tired ones out there) then that would be my choice.
