Removing Steering Wheel on a 03 C Class

Evening fella's,
As the subject matter suggests I want to remove the steering wheel of my C200. The steering wheel is about 5deg off horizontal and the indicator stalk will not stay in the right indicate position. Anyhow I've had the air bag part off which reveals a 10mm alan socket but I just cant get it to budge. Any ideas??

Isn't the steering column topped by a thread with a nut. The hex socket is to hold the column still whilst you undo the nut with a spanner.

I couldnt see the nut. Is it behind the steering wheel?

My mistake it is a 10mm Allen socket which is the head of a bolt. You will need a long lever such as a torque wrench to loosen it and someone to hold the steering wheel (don't use the steering lock). I assume you have disconnected the battery to do this?

If the steering wheel is off then adjust the track rods & alignment, not the wheel

The wheel will have to come off though, I suspect, to replace the MF (indicator) switch. The 10 mm hex bolt is super-tight. Air tools or someone with a long breaker bar will do the trick

As above, you shouldn't be re-locating the wheel to re-align the steering wheel, in fact - you won't even be able to as the spline is keyed so the wheel goes on one way & one way only.

It needs the tracking adjusted with the wheel in the straight ahead position to solve your problem.
