320CDi tuning boxes
Discussion
Anyone had any experience with the tuning boxes that just plug in. Would like to try one on the ML 320CDi and wanted to know if any recommendations. Prefer plug in as is easily reversible.
I saw this on EBay

It is quite cheap and cost is not the driving factor for me although the Brabus one at £1k+ is out of the park.

I tried a similar thing on my wifes Volvo XC90.
Again it was a plug in box that goes in line with the common rail pressire sensor and reduces the signal being fed back to the ECU, hence the ECU ups the pump pressure to reach it's target.
So it just ups the fuel pressure.
Yes it gave a performance improvement, and yes the economy was actualy better as you weren't caning it, but after I had to rescue her when it got hot and went wrong leaving her at the side of the road with the kids, she made me remove it.
Personaly if you want an upgrade I'd get a proper remap.
As is so ofter the case in life, you get what you pay for.

Had an Alpin tuning box from DMS on my C220 CDi. Made a good difference and stayed on the car while I had it. No issues at all, but with the way things have changed over the 9 years since then I'd agree with the comments above and say to get a proper remap done.
You never know with the ebay ones if they're not one of the resistor boxes which cost about 90p to make.
