W211 270CDi - Ball Joint, how long should they last??

Front ball joint in 2005 E270CDi with 50k on the clock, mostly motorway miles, surely they should last longer than this!!!

I had both sides replaced on my '03 plate at roughly the same mileage ie 50k under warranty. The dealership at the time told me there was a history of early failures which Merc were aware of.

My current '07 plate E class has just had the n/s one replaced at 220k miles of mostly motorway driving, so it looks like they have resolved the issue.The o/s is still the original.

Best to give it regular gearbox oil changes. I do mine about every 50K ish miles.I think Mercedes only recommend one at 40k during the warranty period which in my experience is not enough if you do high mileage. Other than that and servicing as per Merc specifications, they will handle mega mileages with very few issues.
