I suppose it could be done on a clear road, with no fear of coppers - also Brum is rather big (think how long it takes to get through the entire conurbation on the M6) so I dare say to the southern extent of what is technically Brum it might be possible.

To anywhere near the city itself - no chance!

It was actually to the NEC just outside if Birmingham which is straight off the M40. Left the house and entered the A34 for 3 mins and then joined the M40. Straight to the NEC in roughly 20 minutes maxing out at around 147-148mph.

Hardly any traffic early on a Sunday morning... believe it or not it was one of my best motoring experiences

I wouldn't go boasting about doing those kinds of speeds on a uk road on a public forum-you could be typing
your way into a nice long driving ban!

280 doesn't do 147mph. At least, not unless it is going down a very steep hill.

My friend claims he went from Oxford to Birmingham via the M40 in 20 minutes in a 1995 Mercedes 280SL. I am not very familiar with this part of the country, and was wondering if this is a pile of crap from my friend GeorgeMatthews who is adament he did this...

Since he is so confident in this I thought this thread would show him he is wrong.

A huge car enthusiast from Oxford.

I am learning to drive at the moment and cannot wait to get on the open road.

I have a real passion for cars and I especially love Italian cars and spend a lot of my time photographing all kinds of exotic cars from dealers to the streets.

I am studying my A-Levels in Oxford at the moment and will hopefully get a motoring journalism degree at UCA Farnham University in Surrey. I wish to become a prestige sales specialist for a high end car dealership somewhere.
