C63 AMG Spec?

Thinking seriously about getting a C63 AMG, but given my previous cars I do want as much 'handling' as possible.

Am I right in saying Performance Pack Plus contains the LSD also?

And are there any other 'must have' options for the car as I will more than likely buy one with small amount of miles on.

Unless I can be tempted into a DR520, at new or nearly new money it seems there isn't much money in it and the dealer does have an ad listing some for sale, out of the 20 made?

Hi the pp/plus does NOT come with the lsd it is a £1560 option !!

The older p/pack cars came with lsd and sports suspension as standard the pp/plus lists the lsd as a option but the sports suspension from the older p/pack is not listed as a option on the pp/plus cars !!

I have owned c63's with and without the p/pack i would not buy one again without the p/pack as the handling is so much better on the p/pack car

I am deciding if it is worth buying a pp/plus car but would lose out on the sports suspension and possibly the lsd ( i will buy a used one ) and not many have the lsd but would gain another 30ish bhp

Thank you, that's very helpful indeed. I guess you get more power with the newer cars but you have to be careful they have the right options.

Finding a PP+ car with LSD and sport suspension seems the way forward if you like twisty roads etc?

pp/plus cars do not have the option of sports suspension you could buy a p/pack car and then do a stage one upgrade to 520/530 bhp for approx £1500 ? just checked your previous cars (very nice) you defo need a p/pack car with the sports suspension.

It depends what it's going to be used for. I use mine as a predominantly family car and could not live with as such with any stiffer set-up. But I ordered it with the LSD because I wanted to have some fun when the wife and kids weren't in it.

It's not really a car that you can hussle down country lanes, and as such I don't feel I am missing anything by not having the sports suspension. Certainly on the roads around me, compliance is everything. Overly damped suspension just doesn't work as well.

Do get the LSD if you like a bit of drifting

Interesting - I found my very self with this choice in February this year.

I had a 2009 C63 Performance Pack which I had just sold and was just about (literally at the dealer with my credit card out) to buy a XF-R...it was a seriously impressive car. In fact, for overall 'ability' it was better than the C63 BUT it didn't have THAT engine or THOSE seats. These two factors are what kept me with the AMG and I walked out of the Jag showroom and went and bought a new Performance Pack Plus C63!

Nice choice to have and either is a great decision - the prices of circa. 12-18m old XF-Rs are very tempting now.

Only issue I have is its dependent of my sale of my M3... but prices seem to be dropping by a grand a week at the moment!!! Is this just the time of year? would i be best holiding off until Spring? as £27k for a new shape M3 seems too little!! But that 6.3 sound is oh so tempting...

I was on the verge of putting down a deposit on a new C63 but then discovered a facelifted version with a much nicer interior is due out in the first half of next year. Given I'd expect that to immediately have some dampening effect on the values of used "pre-facelift" C63s, it occurred to me that it might be sensible to wait for the revised versions. Yes, they are doing some good deals on them at present, but I bet C63s hardly fly out of the showrooms these days, so I'm sure they'll still be keen to do deals when the revised version is out....

i think you will be very surprised about c63s not flying out of the doors they have very little stock of new cars i think they had 3 c63s for december delivery and that was for 160 dealers.

I don’t think the 3 cars for December across the UK is the real picture.

There may well only 3 showing as available / un-allocated but in reality there are others available but showing as sold or allocated.

I can't remember when but i think around half way through the year Merc UK changed the rules about unallocated cars sat in showrooms.

Dealers didn’t have to pay for them until they were sold or allocated, the problem was a dealer say in London would have a lovely spec'd car that a customer in Manchester would like or was keen to buy, the dealer in Manchester would see the car on the system ring the London dealer who would say sorry we aren’t releasing it or sorry actually a customer has just walked in and put a deposit down on it. This meant the Manchester dealer would either have to order one from scratch, find a differently spec'd car elsewhere and hope the client liked it or he would lose the customer as they wouldn’t want to wait for a car to arrive.

Hence now all the half decent spec’d cars or desirable stock that dealers have mysteriously don’t appear on the available stock list.

Having said that Merc have definitely helped demand for the cars by reducing production for the UK

yes they do have a free release with stock but they still dont have to give it to a dealer if they dont want 2.
the 3 cars are not free release cars they are ordered by various dealers that might be for demos or it could be a customers car the person looking at the screen would not no if it is sold stock or not until it rang the dealership who has the car.

I went into Mercedes Benz World yesterday and there are quite a few C63's on the system for delivery between now and February, all allocated to Dealers, and with the majority in white paint. They do not seem to be very well informed about the revised 2011 model, but say it will be available for April orders (July delivery) and will not have the MCT gearbox as it won't fit in the transmission tunnel.

They don't have any pictures or literature on the new model, but said they will get in touch when they do. All in all, a bit of a fruitless visit!

I wonder if they'll have done anything to it to improve emissions or economy? I'm not overly bothered about economy but I've heard tell of people getting averages of 13mpg out of a C63!! Which is rather eyewatering for anything this side of a Jensen Interceptor....

My M£ averages 13.5 at the moment and i have had it for 2 years...

I get just under 23mpg in my c63 over last 5k miles. 25-26mpg at 80/85 for longer runs. Even seen 29mpg at 60. Its the initial start up and slow drive out of town that kills my average though.
