Ive recently picked up a mercedes ml430 (2000 model) for winter.

Im going to store my usual weekend car and thats a supercharged mx5.

It has only service history (at least in the service book)up to 48,000 miles.

As its now just over 100,000 miles , what should i consider having looked at or replace?

And do these 4.3's have a timing chain? If so what is the usual lifetime of them?

I understand they can suffer from problems but are any specific to this model?

Probably worthwhile having a service, it could be 52k since the last one.

It may have had some services or work done to it since then but as i bought it at a auction ive only got evidence of whats been done in the service books.

Hi there

I completed my Apprenticeship with Mercedes Benz. The V8s are good stronge engines, regular servicing should see that go on for years yet!
Just keep an eye on rear springs as they had a tendency to break especially when towing. also it eats brakes at a ferocious pace if I remember rightly, needed replacing all round every service.

otherwise good stuff

Had an ML270CDI 2003, everything went on it, steering rack, springs/ shocks, was worst car we have ever owned. Mileage was 60k when we got rid of it.
