g wagen

hi - can anyone compare driving a g wagen v an m class in bad weather conditions? am switching from a defender (uncomfy / noisy etc), and have heard very good things about g class, not so great about m class. i know g are pretty much indestructible, but m? g are very hard to find too, not so m. will an m do more than i will ever need? i.e. snow, comfort etc, or will it come up short?

My experience of G Wagens is that they are not that good on-road. Even with ABS, the wheels lock too easily and retardation is, errrr, leisurely....they are quieter and more refined than a Defender in all aspects though. But they do scare me a bit on wet motorways at around 70mph!

My experience of M Class is that they are very civilised, a lot better on-road than a G Wagen but not nearly as well-built. it also seems that like all Mercs of that period, you either get a good 'un or a bad 'un....

I would agree with this... but the later G Waggons are fine in the wet... although they are clearly from a military background.

How late? My father's 99 vintage one still exhibits the same traits as his '92 car
