Do w124 owners salute each other?

On my way home this evening I was passing through Caversham, Reading when the driver of a w124 E-Class appeared to wave as I passed by. Either that or he was stretching his arm!

I'm used to this kind of behavior when driving my Elise but have only recently joined the old Merc club so am not sure of the protocol

Can't say I was ever waved at in mine but did notice fellow owners take a closer look at the lights, petrol stations etc. Becoming quite an enthusiasts car these days.

Funnily enough that happened to me at a garage, he waved, I put my thumb up.......then hopped out and checked my fuel cap as I thought he was indicating I had left it open which I hadn't. Felt a prize plum so, yes I guess they are getting a bit wavy now.

I tend to wave at other W126s, as I see so few these days, but I don't often get a wave back

Funnily enough I had been admiring a grey/brown W124 estate just before hand which I happened to pass. No waves/nods were exchanged!

It was a saloon this chap was driving I think. I'm afraid all he got in return was funny look as he rather took me by surprise and I wasn't certain he was waving or not tbh. Next time I'll be quicker on the draw

I have bought an E320 estate myself recently as well but I don't think I have passed another yet. When I do I will give him a wave.

Agree they are becoming an enthusiast's motor. My 1995 model has the usual rusty front wings which I will attend to but otherwise absolutely everything works and it is far more solid than any other car I have ever owned. 153,000 miles with I reckon 18 oil changes since new and a total service history.

My car is Malachite green which appears to be identical to "Aston Martin" Chiltern green which, by way of a happy coincidence, is the colour of my Griffith. Pretty good pair I reckon and depreciation proof which is key to the Flawse theory of happy motoring.

Must say I am thoroughly enjoying wafting around in my 300ce. A real feel-good car to drive. Classic looks too.

Malachite is a good colour on a W124, particularly if the paint is in good condition

Thanks for the recommendation. I expect I will use them for servicing etc as they are only a 10min walk from my flat. Only problem is they don't work Saturdays. I work in Luton so getting back there to drop off/collect the car is not going to be easy without taking time off.

Over the weekend the passenger side window has come off its runners slightly and does not seal properly when closed. Makes an annoying whistle above 50mph so need it sorted pronto. Am taking it to these guys on Sat (can't afford a day off right now):

Anyone have any experience of them? May well get them to do a service if the price is right.

No experience of them. John Griffiths is also in Caversham and seems to be well respected on MB forums, don't know if they are open on Saturdays or not.
