AMG vs GT-R what a choice
Discussion
Guys,
Luckily, I have the choice of a new car (or nearly new) and have decided to narrow it down to either a C63 (or E63) or a GT-R.
Finding it really hard to choose but the C63 is slightly ahead due to being a 5 seater.
Has anyone had the chance of driving these two back to back or even owning both. Your views would be greatly appreciated.
Have driven a C63 and loved it and ill be trying a GT-R next week.

I now own a GTR, but have a C63ppp on order.
Only reason being, the Mrs is expecting our 2nd child. Simply not enough room to fit the mrs, 2 babies and all extras that go with them in the GTR.
If the rear seats are not important to you, buy the GTR, it would blow a C63 out of the water in all driving conditions. If however you like a bit of refinement, get the C63. Although the GTR can be driven sedately, in terms of engine and box, the ride always remains firm. Fine for country road blasts, but not so for everyday use. Just my opinion.
I dont use the GTR everyday, so for me it was perfect, a very very very fast weekend car, I have owned some impresive cars, but the GTR takes some beating in the performance stakes.
My GTR is going to be for sale. 6k miles. Gunmetal black edition. Immaculate throughout.

Well, just priced the C63 with my local dealer and with the spec I want its priced at £69328.
Salesman went away and came back with a deal of £63709
So nearly £6k off without even trying to do a deal....
Wonder what they will offer when they know I am serious...
Only 11 spaces available before end of the year too so to avoid the VAT uplift the deal needs to be done by 12th November to get a delivery date 2 days before Christmas...

yep nearly....left off two cup holders and the Designo Leather dash.....ohh and the blinds......Guess I'll get hit big time come resale but you only live once and can't take it with you..;)
I think the C63 and GTR are very different cars and hard to compare.
They are both quick cars but there in the similarities end IMO
The C63 is an awesome car in terms of sound, looks, and performance but the handling in any other than dry conditions will see it left behind by most cars in its league, that isn’t a real criticism of the car, its more a case of the power and torque of the engine is just so immense.
I have only driven a GTR for a relatively short period and have to admit its a very quick car with handling that would crush the C63 but unless you are going to put an exhaust system on it and possibly tune it then i think in standard form they lack that certain something.
If you need the space and want the fun and exhaust note to die for then the C63 is the way to go.
Go and see Rob at DMS in Southampton let him release the true performance of the car matched to the CLK63 Black gear changes and you will be a happy man.
Only negative i would say is make sure you haggle hard as the facelift 63's will be coming along and rumours of engine changes is a real possibility too

I have a GT-R and my Woman had an E63 Estate.
Very very different cars and only you can decide.
The GT-R is hard as nails, clunky and clattery and blisteringly fast....an incredible car that i will never be without.
The E63 is also a superb car but in a completely different way. Very fast and smooth and you can take the family too. It would be top of my family car list.
Incidentally my wife had a long term test drive in a C63 when she was looking to change last year.......she went M3 in the end. Great car too, but she is a woman so maybe doesn't help much.

Well, after nearly a month of chasing, my dealer cant find an AMG which can be spec'ed to what I want. A couple of other dealers have cars very close and able to be specced but wont release to my dealer..
So now it seems it is too late to get any changes done for a car before the end of 2010....
bummer...
So if anyone knows someone who wants to sell their speccable C63 build slot then please let me know....

Virtually the same spec as Palmballs. Designo dash is not imperative but PPP and LSD along with exterior carbon pack is.
Harmon Kardon and Comand needed etc etc.
Kev, if you're after the same as Palmball's car, why not purchase Palmball's example. I understand it could be up for sale Harmon Kardon and Comand needed etc etc.

How long do you reckon the E63 will last??

I wouldn't - took me a year to sell my brother's SEAT Leon How long do you reckon the E63 will last??
Hmmm. After you've picked it up and driven it home, you'll have to have a few days to consider how you can make it better. Then drive it back to AMG for some extra leather and one-off enhancements.
Of course you'll have to wait until the weather's better before heading over the 'Ring a few times. Then Mercedes will announce that prices on 2nd hand SL65 Black Series will have plummeted and you'll be able to wangle one hell of a deal. I give it six months
