Snow socks

As the snow appears to be setting in, I dont want a repeat of last year where the car was undrivable and being a rep on the road most of the time and going to customers houses its a must that I can get to them, does anyone have any experiance with these so called snow socks that go on the wheels that drive the car?

I have no personal experience of them but have been looking at them - their performance looks amazing. I wonder about their longevity though.

Absolutely brilliant but only use them on snow - they'll be shredded in no time on tarmac. Great for getting out of trouble, but not an option for sustained driving.

If getting to appointments is important financially then get yourself some winter tyres - I think there may be a thread about this somewhere.

Thats what I thought probably good for getting out of a sticky situation but no good on the tarmac as they are only fabric. Thanks will look for the thread regarding the winter tyres.

They are amazing in snow. Earlier this year, my SL performed in up to a foot of snow as if it were dry conditions. As others have said, they have to come off if there is no snow on the road and they are subject to a 30mph speed limit. You can go a very short distance but have to go quite slowly. During one journey I did a 4 mile stretch on clear but wet tarmac and they were OK. In total I reckon I did about 100 miles on mine earlier in the year and they are still good.

In your career path then would it be essential to drive something more akin to all weather such as a four by four. Forget winter tyres once the snow comes down to the conditions we are currently experiancing winter tyres are a total waste of time

wtf?

Have you actually tried winter tyres?

Or is the OP regularly driving farm tracks or similar?

Personally (and it obviosuly depends on your budget) I would go for winter tyres. The winter tyres will performa all round better whilst temps are 7 degrees or below - that includes braking in the wet as well as the snow.

Also, the snow socks are a bit of a hassle if your journey encompasses side roads and motorway. Probably OK for trips around town I guess.
