Just got back from a quick trip through Germany, had some fun experiences on the Autobahn - isn't it refreshing to be able to drive at a speed you find sensible without worrying about it. Anyway, found out the max speed on our G-Wagen. 120 on the GPS was where it hit a very serious wall, although I saw 123 on a downhill stretch. Not bad considering we had half a tonne of wine in the back too. You can really tell the effect of aerodynamics on this car, getting to 100 is a very easy affair, but over 110 and you really start to crawl.

More interesting than this though was dropping by the Brabus HQ for a chat. I managed to get the dealer to give myself and my dad a go in their 640bhp SL. What a beast! I'm not sure what it gets to 100 in, but not much less than a GT3 or something similar. But it is at speeds over this where it really flies. While I was passengering I had a close look at the speedo - it gained 10km/h per second when you were already doing 200km/h. Amazing. Lucky for the traction control too, I had a bit of a sideways moment just pulling off. Maybe in 10 years I will get one second hand. We'll see!

Edited to say: I forgot some very important details. I was very dissapointed to be the slowest driver in the SL, managing only 165mph. Annoyingly my dad bettered me with 173, and the salesman saw 183. We kept on being slowed down by those pesky 911 drivers doing only 120.
