Hi in the heavy snow I went to start my Mercedes e320 coupe, whilst I cleaned off the snow and the wipers were still on from the night before.

But as there was so much compacted now on the windscreen the wipers went, got stuck and the fuse burnt out. There was a spare fuse on the box, but it was very corroded, probably as old as the car!!!, so didnt work. I managed to scratch through to the original metal and all worked fine, until today! (

Driving today the wipers are veerrry slow in all modes, and stutter across the windscreen. I bought a new fuse to replace the corroded replacement and it seems maybe slightly better, but still too slow. I'm thinking maybe a relay could have dirty contacts/need replacing.

Does anyone have any hints to which relay controls the wipers? I've also read lubeing the mech helps, but I'd rather start with the obvious as these are renowed for dirty contacts and dry joints.

When I got the car sometimes on the intermittent setting would mean the wiper would randomly stop in different places, I guess this could be linked. Also the heated screen doesnt not work, but I presumed this was due the the delaminating of the rear screen and usual milkiness.

Thanks in advance chaps, all advice much appreciated.....

I hope all turns out ok with this . I know for certain that the wiper mechanism is a pain to get to , and , compared to the build quality of the rest of the car , a little fragile . I've heard of the motor failing if overloaded by ice or snow etc , but I would expect total failure rather than slow running .
Having said that , there are no modern car I've been in with such a good coverage .

Cheers for the quick reply Micky!

I just jumped in to go across Wokingham and all seems back to normal. also the low screenwash light came on, which never normally works!!!

There seems alot of drag/resistance on the windscreen making them very squeaky, but speed wise they seem back to normal.

Any advice more than welcome smile
