Merc A Class battery and throttle problems ?

Lady next door to me said her battery had gone flat on her first generation A class to which on of her friends jump started the car but she said the car wouldn't rev on the throttle pedal. They only left the car running 10 mins before she switched it off and now the battery is flat again and she's asked me if I will charge the battery up for her.
She's had the car a few years, so I can see a situation where the car would be running and she would say it wouldn't rev unless it really wouldn't. Is there any reason why it shouldn't with a running engine but with a flat battery ?
