Due to the rubbish weather I haven't used my SL for a while and although the battery is not flat I would like to put it onto my battery conditioner.

Having read the manual it reckons I remove the batteries to charge them which is fine but a little inconvenient if I just want to use the car. How do others do this - is there a specific approved charger that will not fry the electronics?

If I disconnect the battery for a while is it just clock reset or will all the seat memory be lost as well?

Also does the rear battery have any drain whilst the car is off?

The rear battery is the main battery, ie it will drain over time. From memory, the other battery up front is something to do with a brake failsafe mechanism so suffers very little use.

Had an infrequently used SL connected up to a CTEK 3600 for the last 5/6 years. Works perfectly. Cable permanently attached to the battery and a male/female clip allows easy connection.

One battery is the starter battery, with a backup for all the electrical systems, the other is a systems battery with a backup for the starter motor!

Great site (bookmarked). Totally confused now about what does what, but note to the OP. It's the battery in the boot you need to connect up to the CTEK unit.

Thanks for the PDF. Those chargers look good and I could get extra connectors for other cars.

Thanks again
