Tyre Pressure Monitors

Hello All,

I have an 04 SL55....anyone else suffering withe the ridiculous tyre pressure monitoring system? Mine have been replaced and been reprogrammed, yet still fail and give me a arning mesage on the dash. My Merc dealer says it is a well documented problem and has suggested that they are 'unprogrammed'.... any experiences any one can share would be welcomed.

Had the same issue with my 2002 SL55 amg soon after I bought it in March 2009, firstly had the control module changed as this was a common fault. This did not fix the issue, however it was later cured by replacing all four tyre pressure monitors because the batteries were dying. Probably the reason that you are experiencing it now is because yours is a 2004 model. The dealership should be able to read the battery life of each sensor and then relieve you of some of your hard earned cash for replacements.

Another pointless piece of tech.

Check your tyres each week with a gauge save yourself the money to fix the badly designed crap.

I agree this particular car has too much instrumentation by far.....get this; to 'reset' them, Merc say they blank out the memory of the tyre pressures and then get the car to 'learn' the pressures. Well, they did their bit (took seconds with a laptop) then I drove the car for 20 minutes and the tyre pressure monitors still didn't recognise the tyre pressures and they did not reset.......I went back to Merc who told me that apparently once they had to drive a car around 'all day' to get the computer to recognise the monitors. And no doubt put hundreds of miles on too. Thanks but no thanks!

Bizarre - mine took around 10 mins to recognise/reactivate.

Just to close this out....turns out that the metal dust caps on the valves was the fault. Removing them, replacing with plastic ones and unplugging the ECU and plugging it back in again has solved the reset problem. I hope that the full monitoring system now gives me years of fault free service!
