Just a quicky........
The old mans talking of selling his car(43amg) 1999/V 63k full mbsh he is the second owner/ed 6/7yrs.
Clean silver estate sits in his garage. Problem is he paid around 30grand when he bought it and thinks its still worth a fortune :-)
What could he expect to get for it privately do you think ?
I'm assuming these cars are hard to sell??
Anyones experiemce is appreciated.

Awwwh Bless him - does he still believe in the Tooth Fairy?

Selling privately on a good day, travelling downhill with a following wind - around £4k.

On a bad day - £2.5K should buy it

My S-Class Limo cost £58K in 1998 - now worth about the same as your Dads AMG.

That's Life - but think of the pleasure the vehicle has given over the years.

Sounds about right, maybe just a little low. I traded in a 99T estate on 75k for just shy of £3k six months ago. As it's an estate he might just get a little more privately for a real minter - £5k? £5.5k?

Again, to get a sense of perspective, my Feb 2005 E500 originally retailed at just north of £58k (the original owner ticked a lot of boxes) and I picked it up for £14k back in April. In another five or six years it will be worth buttons.

Sadly, big engine + specialist vehicle (AMG) = low price. No-one in the UK (apart from a handful of enthusiasts) want, or need, a vehicle like that. Which is exactly why I picked up the 2003 Navigator for under £12K in the UK - and brought it down here, where it is instantly worth at least double what I paid for it.

It won't be worth a fortune (he needs to forget what he paid for it) but equally, there is a pool of people who would be interested.

Private selling will get you the most money, hence, I would recommend putting an advert in Mercedes Enthusiast. Would also be worth an advert in the Mercedes Club Gazette if he is not already a member and perhaps make an appearance at Brooklands on 1 January 2011 with an ad in the window.

There are many many traders who buy and re-sell Mercedes so you would likely be able to offload to them too - just depends on how long you want to try and sell the car for an what the price will be.

Thanks for the responses and emails guys, i will get in touch when he makes a firm decision to sell.
I mentioned a few figures that were posted on here and he just laughed.
I believe the navigation equiptment he had installed when he bought it cost him more than alot of the figures thrown about on here :-)
all comments have been taken on board, thank you !
He's going to look for a replacement before he decides to sell. He has trouble breathing now so wants some sort of soft roader so he doesn't have to climb down into a car and up from out of it ?? if that makes sense.
will be in touch gents if he finds the car he is after !

.
I bought mine out of the Mercedes Enthusiast classifieds - there was me and one other buyer in a race to snap it up.

I saw the E500 on Autotrader - again there was one other interested party.

So as XB70 says there will be a very small number of enthusiastic people - you just have to find them. He still won't get much though :-( Just a grand or two more than trade in.

I'd say you are halfway there with those prices!

This sort of thing isn't a "book" car - throw the guides away for something like this. Probably books at £2.5k, I've not looked, but there would be a very long queue for this car at £2.5k!

The one at £12k does seem a bit optimistic though - I'd reckon on £8k being a realistic max, unless you want to advertise it forever.

You'd need a specialist trader to get a realistic bid on that, otherwise you'll just get bid in the bks!

I know someone who just got £6k privately for a minter 2000 saloon.

Masses and masses of history, massive stack of bills.

Sound like the very very top.

Mine needed paint (loads of it - £2-3000), discs and pads all round (£600?), dampers (all shot - £600?), full wheel refurb (£200?).

So £3k for a shabby one plus £3k of bills or £6k for a minter.

...a couple of years ago and at half those miles maybe...but now, I think that £4995 might be a good starting point. Great cars though.

I do think that if it has dodged the tinworm and has a sound 'box (and isn't purple with green interior) it has to be worth more than £2500...

The wonders of PH...

I've been looking for a quick estate for a while and one of these would be right up my street.

Very interested to note the values, from what I can see its 3k to get into a shabby one, a mint one up to 6k.

I could only buy and estate which limits my choices somewhat!

Cash waiting for the right car.

IIRC there were only 140-ish estates imported. Keep looking - a good one is great fun.

Here's a (pricey) one. Great colour and rare MY 2000 tiptronic gearbox which has been replaced or at least refurbed.

I thought that the Tiptronic boxes didn't have the reliability issues of the earlier 722.6 ones. It would seem not if that one had to be replaced.
