Had the rear section of my S124 E220 replaced in spring - 16 years old and 125k - typically went on a 3k tour of the highlands.
Cheapest place for replacement was the local dealer - Inverness in this case. And its a Mercedes part.
Forward section still going, but a little rattly inside from loose debris. And that's the more expensive bit.
Whilst having wife's Jazz serviced this week they were saying how original exhausts have are lasting a lot longer these days. Yours does sound a little young based on my (limited) experience - maybe its the type of journey's - short rather than long ?

My '86 500 SEC still has the original centre and tail boxes and they are perfect.
I took the whole system off last year and fitted new front pipes, hangers and clamps throughout and it sounds like new: in fact it's virtually silent when idling.
25 years old and 134K on the clock. Not bad, eh?

I know it is a case of "How long is a piece of string", but I am surprised to hear this and you may well have good cause to gripe. I live next to the sea (significantly increases corrosion), drive 55,000miles a year, drive on salted and wet and muddy roads. Yet the exhaust on my 1986 500 SEC (evidently there are a lot of us about) is part original and part replacement, the replacement bits being fitted in 2008 at 110k miles. The exhaust on my 1993 320 TE with 185k miles is entirely original. The back box on my 1999 SL500 with 205k miles was replaced this year with a break in the exact same place as yours; I have had to replace the cats twice, both times as a result of driving through deep water (second time covered by warranty). As the joint in between the rear back box to the main pipe has a hole.

So unless you have been seriously abusing your car, parking it under water, wrapping it in salt, I'd say you're right to feel short-changed.
