bluetooth cradle-which one?

i have a c220cdi with phone prep and have been looking for a bluetooth cradle that will run my htc desire hd handset.there seem's to be some that will run ok with smartphones and some that dont?
has anyone had any experiences with them,good or bad?

Forgive me if I'm being stupid but what's the cradle for? I have an E220 cdi with phone prep & I simply switch bluetooth on my Blackberry Bold to on, and it hooks up with the car automatically, thought all phones with bluetooth worked the same way in Mercs with phone prep?

my cars a 54 plate and i dont think it has bluetooth,it has the wiring into the centre console but no cradle attached,i figured if i fitted a bluetooth cradle instead of a phone dedicated item,different phones could then be used?

Fantastic, I presume the part number is on the cradle ? next question how do you remove the cradle ? I have tried pressing all the buttons it won't budge

On the ML the connector is at the front so you would slide the cradle back to release it.

right,got it today,couldnt be easier to use.imports all contacts,control through steering wheel/stereo.up and running in around 2 mins.sound quality on the other end (so my mrs tells me!)is good,she couldnt tell i was using a hands free.

There is a small, circular, pin protruding towards the front of the cradle - press it down and slide the cradle / Blue-tooth adaptor towards the rear of the car and it will come free

I have just purchased an EClass 55 plate which has the bluetooth cradle installed however can not get my Nokia phone or blackberry to connect to it! The connection is made I am then asked for the passcode which I enter, connected shows for a couple of seconds and then drops out,
does anyone know what I should be doing ?

I don't think you have full bluetooth - you need the additional kit.

There are multiple Bluetooth pucks for older cars with no BT built in. The older cars must have pre-wiring (normally a connector in the centre console area) and then rely on either a HFP or SAP puck to enable BT.

The HFP puck. HFP (Hands free protocol) is the typical BT you get with accessories like BT headsets, cheap handsfree kits ie Parrot etc. You connect and the signal goes through the phones antennae. It works, it's cheap-ish.

SAP (Sim Access Profile) locks down the phone, reduces it's power consumption and routes the reception via the Cars antennae. SAP is really much better as the reception is much improved compared to HFP. However not all phones support SAP. Nokia, BB and a few others, I'm not up with the latest list of phones that support SAP. Some BB's don't support SAP properly either without a firmware upgrade. BTDT.

The new Mercs like my E350 Cab come with HFP built in, you don't need a puck, but you can still buy a non phone specific SAP puck, or a SAP specific phone cradle. That's cool, but a pain if you change phones frequently as it obviously wouldn't work if you switched from a BB to an Iphone for example.

The old BT SAP puck is often called the SLR puck because it looks like the front of a McLaren/Merc SLR. It's silver with blue lights. The old HFP module is plain black.

The new SAP module looks like a plain black version of the SLR module.

You can buy them from the link above or direct from Mercedes. Ask Mercedes for help, they will direct you as what to buy. Their phone lists aren't gospel though they are way out of date. So if your phone supports HFP you have lots of options however if you want to have the very best reception you need a phone that will support SAP and the right SAP module for your model of car.

Thanks for that, I have removed the cradle and on the back it says Nokia 6233, so my next question is has anyone got one for sale ?

Sorry for digging up an ol' thread, but thought it was better than starting a new one.

The above info is very interesting. My father has recently bought a B200 (2006) which has the cradle for the Sony Ericsson W800i. I would like to get him the SAP v2 or equivalent - a bluetooth cradle that will allow his Blackberry (and possibly a Nokia) to connect to the car when he's driving. Is the SAP V2 the answer?

He's removed the cradle and now how the exposed plug - can we buy any SAP v2 and fit that to the now exposed plug or does the SAP v2 need to be a specific model to fit into the existing cradle?

Any help appreicated.

PS - to add the above, my father was told the part he needed was V67880000 but I think this is just HFP, so wont copy the contacts to the COMAND. Is that right?
