Hi guys,

My merc CLK 320 seems to have a major gearbox fault!

Its on 99k miles and theres just no grunt from the engine. There's bangs and knocks from the gearbox, kick down doesn't work and the engine shakes when stopped (but still in Drive)

I have a feeling the gearbox has gone into 'limp mode'.

Does anyone have any ideas what this might be?

Cheers!

When the air flow meter failed on my CLK, the gear changes were as rough as anything. I can't say there were any knocks or noises from the gearbox though. Have you had the gearbox fluid changed at any point? Have you looked at the dipstick for the gearbox to see what state the fluid's in?

To be honest I have only had the car a number of days so I havent been able to check anything yet.

I actually drove the car back to the dealer and they said they'll look at it. I just want to fathom it out myself.

I've heard a few things about air flow meters and CLK's needing a trans fluid change at about 100k. Wondered if there were any further reasons.

Cheers!
