R129 retro fit heated seats

Have 92 car with very cold seats
Has anyone ever fitted seat heating----and if so, all info re how/ part numbers etc very gratefully received

It is possible to retrofit just about anything and Mercedes provides instructions to do so within its WIS system. However, the cost of doing it using new factory parts often is prohibitive. For heated seats, the biggest difficulty would be locating the switches in the standard position, i.e., on the centre console. Difficult because you either buy new wood (£1,200 and never available used in good condition and with all the holes in the right places) or you machine additional cut outs (almost impossible to do right). On the R129 you'd need four heating pads (two per seat, installed under the leather coverings), a control unit, the switches and a loom. At one end, the loom plugs into the accessory connection which usually is in the footwell. You then have lengths to the switches and to the control unit. From the control unit you have lengths to each heating pad. I'd be tempted to go after market and mount the switches on the outboard trims around each seat base.

Almost certainly cheaper and considerably less of a kerfuffle to move to Spain . Or buy thicker underpants .

When I looked at the mercedes EPC, I couldn't believe that there were something like 34 different variations on the centre console wood trim to cope with all the various switch combinations. Just putting blanking plates over unused switches was obviously not good enough for Mercedes in the good old days (although they seem to do it now on the R230!)

There are detailed instructions on WIS at document 91-05. It doesn't look easy.
