w202 c220 diesel

Hi,
My C220 straight diesel seems to be drinking the diesel like theres no tomorrow at the mintute does anyone know what the problem would be?? For £50 i would have easily touched for 450-500 miles now its only getting me around 300?? the car has been serviced etc but just seems to keep drinking......

First thing to check is that the air filter is not blocked, then check air flow meter, if they are ok it could be a injector going down. Does it start ok in the mornings. These engines are quite simple, so it should be easy to sort out.

You do know diesel prices have gone up though, i still work on £10 to 100 miles and that was 18 years ago when i was a trainee, think i should try and forget that ratio now
