SL55 Key Problems

Can anyone recommend what i do about a key problem. I have just the one key fob and keyless card but it has very short range on unlocking and locking the car.
Also the boot dosent unlock on the fob....and the keyless dosent work altogether.

Is there a specialist which can sort this/ provide and program new keys or am i going to have to go through main dealer.

Trying to avoided the main stealers at the moment as they are not being very helpful, and coming up with some seriously high qoutes.

you must contact an independent specialist, it only takes a phone call but you could save many hundreds of pounds, they can quote you cheaper parts and labour costs, your car's problem is not uncommon on sl's so I'm sure they will know the fault or have a good idea about it straight away,

only thing about the key is that the indy will have to order this through MB and I think they get the key direct from germany as it will need programming to your car's particular chassis number,

main stealers will always rip you off - thats a given

lol yeah thats an over-generalization I admit, just my experience of MB and also BMW in the past, it always seemed that what looked like a 'small' repair job turned into hundreds of pounds unnecessarily

proof of this is that on a few occasions I've taken cars to the main dealer and an indy afterwards who sometimes quoted significantly less with no difference in quality of work (a lot of the indy mechanics were previously working at MB for many years actually)

Is it really that expensive to get the keys coded? My keyless remotes weren't working when I got my SL and when I took it in to MB to have some unrelated work done I mentioned it and the lad that did the work gave them back to me and said he'd recoded them for me, no charge. Which is nice as I now have 2 fobs and 2 keyless
