W215 CL63 AMG?

Hi

A friend of mine got in touch as his father is selling the above car. Haven't seen one of these for sale before. Are they particularly rare? I have no idea how much it is worth. Can only seem to find info regarding the newer model online.

Any advice on this car appreciated.

You are sure it's the W215? Not the W216? If so....

Very, very, very rare indeed. You won't see many for sale at all. Between 20 and 28 built. Worldwide.
How many in the country? 1...2 perhaps? Certainly not many. Made over a brief few months in 2001.
V12 w/444bhp.

Upside - shouldn't be overwhelmingly pricey ~10,15k over a nice-ish '65AMG.
Downside - there are bound to be some comparatively unique parts for any garage to have to contend with and factor that into any ownership proposition. And W215 running costs aren't for the faint-hearted in the first instance.

You'd have to have an R129 SL70 or 73AMG to be more exclusive. Genuinely worth looking at.

yep extremely rare, only built for about a month, very difficult to calculate value, i would agree its as rare as the sl70/73 amg etc but not as special,

i think the w215 cl63 was just a fore-runner to the newer 63 amg models with only difference being the gearbox? but i'm not sure, the 7 litre amg engine is extra special and used later in the pagani zonda of course, however the w215 cl63 had a v12 engine I think and so is different from the new 63's

i would venture a guess that the value is about 5k over the price of an equivalent cl600 or cl55 and this is based mainly on rarity,

Thanks for the replies. Sounds interesting - I'll look into it, and try to snap some pics when i'm next there as I can't find any in the public domain.

Just to clarify I believe it is a 2001 car, so definitely W215.

Would I be right in saying the overall purchase/running costs would not amount to much less than a full fat CL65? I would intend on using it, not locking it away as an investment, and I'm not sure I could justify the running costs of an CL65 in a car with two thirds the power, no matter how rare it may be.

they are very rear we have one come in but i have never seen another the enving is virtuialy the same visually as the 600 none turbo 137 engine
