hi all.

can anyone tell me how long the battery is covered by mercedes warranty on a new car?

my GL is 3 years old in may, and the battery is starting to struggle; would is still be covered under the 3 year warranty?

i note that if i replace it at mercedes at my cost the new battery has a 3 year no quibble warranty.

any help before i call dealer would be appreciated.

thanks in advance.

Well it's not really a straight answer.
please send me you chassis number, as i need to check the build date agasint the reg date.
also often do you drive the car, and for how long.

I respectfully suggest that you check the battery type in your vehicle and then check the manufacturer's warranty (Google the battery details).

For instance, the Bosch "Silver Series" batteries have a five year warranty, the new AGM batteries have a six year warranty.

I expect you will find you have either a Bosch or Varta battery, so I reckon you will get a free replacement. Good luck! Toffer smile

thanks for all advice so far.

murray007, i have done perhaps 1000 miles in the last month, and is used daily... the car was in at my main dealer last week as i was having a set of Brabus alloys fitted by them and they were replacing all my wheel bolts as they were corroded. however, all bolts had almost welded themselves in place and they had a real job getting the wheels off. they had the car since wed, and i collected at 5pm fri. on sat morning, the first turn on the ignition it went onto retard, and started on 2nd turn; has done this 4 times since then, but today, it will not go further than retard; prior to sat morning, it hasn't done that before.

most likely a bad coincidence, but thought i would mention it anyway; please note, i'm not main dealer bashing or finger pointing as i rate my dealer very highly. just more background info.

i have sent you my chassis number via your email; again, many thanks for all your help, today and previously.

i shall post up how i get on with this.

update.

MURRAY007 sent me a pm showing that my GL was registered 10mths after it was built, and that the registering dealer has to keep charging records for that time to maintain warranty.

as it turns out, my main dealer was the registering dealer, and with MURRAY007's info called them and told them the battery seems dead; they called back 10 mins later, gave me the number for MB recovery and to arrange recovery to my dealer where they shall fit a new battery under waranty. no mention of '2 year warranty' or 'consumable item' or any other drama.

top marks to MURRAY007 and my main dealer again!

i hope this post helps others at some point.
