Idle control Valve, 1985 190e.

Hi folks,
The old thing is idling badly, and takes a while of prodding the accelerator before it runs nicely.
I've changed the dizzy cap and rotor arm, have put a new warm up regulator on, to no avail....
Any idea if this age 190e has an idle control valve that is accesible? Or indeed, any ideas of what else I could check.
suppose I could change the injectors next....

suppose I could change the injectors next....You're running K Jet on that engine. There are quite a few variations in the installation of thses systems, so it would help if you could post a couple of pics of the engine bay to let me see your system.
It should have an idle control valve on the rubber intake hose near the inlet manifold. You can take that out and clean it, but I would also check for air leaks on the inlet hoses and the various vacuum pipes feeding off the inlet manifold. The symptoms you describe are classic of a faulty warm up regulator or vacuum leaks. As you've already replaced the regulator, the next logical step is to check for leaks.

Yes, this old thing is marvellous really, I'm only the second owner, previous chap had it all those years, and even chose that green exterior to go with a green INTERIOR, it's a plethora of green!
I haven't been able to take a picture of my engine bay yet, but have 'stolen' one from the net of the exact same bay.
It's really beginning to annoy me now, the car runs so smoothly, apart from slight pinking when making decent progress, but fails to fire up from cold without this hesitation which lasts only for a couple of minutes, almost as if it's clearing it's throat.
I've had a look for the cold start valve, can't initially spot anything, also checked the breather hose under the air pan, that's fine, also the vaccuum pipe which runs underneath that, that's fine too.
I never get attached to cars but for some reason this thing has got under my skin...
Anyway, here's the engine bay.(Apologies if it's anyones car on here!)

Sorry about the delayed reply, hellish busy!
If you look at the top left hand corner of the engine bay Mike, you will see a number of vacuum hoses and check valves. Make sure there are no vacuum leaks there.
Somewhere around the firewall you will find a small, round plug with arrows marked on it; this is the octane plug. It enables small changes to be made to your ignition timing. Simply unplug it and turn it to the next position to retard the timing; this should cure the pinking. If you turn it the wrong way it will just get worse!
If the pinking is caused by a weak mixture however, you must have either a vacuum leak or a numpty has weakened the mixture too much. This is really common at MOT tests. The tester just adjusts the mixture screw to get a pass reading on the CO meter, despite the fact that it is far too lean and could damage the engine!
The mixture is adjusted by inserting a long allen key through the small tube in the top of the air cleaner housing. You must only make very small adjustments to this, and should only do it if you have a CO meter to record the change.
Let me know how you get on.

Re the octane knob, I have seen them on previous 190's and E class I've owned but curiously there isn't one present on this current incarnation.
It's still reticent to start but I've had a fiddle with an allen key and turned the mixture up slightly, this, in turn has slightly increased the idle. Maybe it's a little easier due to the warmer temperature or that I don't know, I'll keep you posted but it's a definate headscratcher!
