Hey guys,

My Punto has a bloody annoying knocking noise coming from the rear, more so the passenger side rear. Ive replaced the shocks, had the exhaust remounted properly and all checked over so thats not causing it. The garage who checked it over couldn't find anything a miss and reckon all thats left would be the rear axle bushes that are knackered?

It knocks loudly over any bumpy road/surface, more so at lower speed, and in time with suspension travel.

Whats the best way of me confirming thats its definately the rear axle bushes/bearings that have gone, any symptom or stuff I can do to confirm it myself?

Its a 1999 W reg 1.2 8v punto.

Thank you!

Paul

The Mk1 Punto used to make tremendous knocking noises when the bushes at the front of the rear subframe went.

I've just Googled to see if the Mk2 suffered similarly but apparently it doesn't. However, it seems you need a pair of these axle bushes, which are reportedly rather difficult things to find. I would have thought if they had failed to the point of thumping about you could find (or the garage could demonstrate) play in them.

Thanks for the link! Yeah I'd googled mk2 punto rear axle problems and not got much back to suggest Mk2s suffer from the bushes at the back failure like the MK1s .

Cheers
