Hi

I am looking a buying a 166 to replace my company car but I don't want to spend huge sums of £ (10K max).

Any advice on the best model/engine to get. I have spoke to an Alfa dealer who said that sat nav can be retro fitted for £850 so if I can get a car for as little as poss it will help.

Any opinions of reliabilty as well?

Cheers

Am I right in thinking that you work for an Alfa dealer, if so you might be able to help me on the following.

I want a car that looks like it's not another company car and so I am looking at 156s as well. The price seems very reasonable and that styling is to die for, but can you retro fit sat nav (was it an option at all?).

What's the best model to go for? I'm looking at the 2.0 l but am open to ideas.

Also anything that I should really keep my eye out for?.

Cheers

Get yourself down to a Fiat/Alfa Special Sale auction. At the last one I attended, a 166 3.0 V6 24V Sport with 5084 miles went for £9,700.

Yikes!, That's cheap. I have looked at the new GT today and it is drop dead, but 20K (although if I sold the Dax ).............

Alex, have you any details on the auctions?

We can offer Smart Nav, Which is a good sat nav system that is relativley inexpensive.

See www.smartnav.co.uk

The GTA is the best model to go for!

If not the 156 JTD 20V Multijet Diesel. 175bhp!!

Go to www.auctionview.co.uk (You have to pay a few quid, unfortunately). Then search by catalogue for "Alfa Special Sales".

I bought our 52 reg. Ulysse 2.2JTD Eleganza (with 4,700 miles on the clock) at a Fiat Special Sale for £13.3k (new price, £22k!).

They are all Fiat/Alfa fleet demonstrator vehicles and are usually 12 months old with around 12k on the clock. Most are bread-and-butter models, but you get the occasional tasty number.

All are sold with warranted mileage and the balance of the 3 year warranty. You can't lose really!

Most manufacturers have these sales, but the good thing about the Fiat/Alfa ones is that they are open to the public.

Traders will not bid above book price, so your biggest enemy is another private punter.

Also bear in mind that you need to be able to pay in full if your bid is successful.
