Hi everyone,
Quick question. Does anyone know of either a person or garage that would be willing to restore an Alfa Sud?
It's been sitting in my Dad's barn for the past 4-5 years and certainly requires some welding done etc. The engine has not been run in this time either.
Preferrably close to Bedfordshire as possible.
Cheers smile

The engine will just start up.

The bodywork will require someone patient, optimisitc and brave.

I restored mine and it won the concours one year. Very rewarding and worthwhile. There's only 150 or so left now I think.

Just to say I am jealous. What year? My cousin had a 1979 1.5TI in the early 80's. It a was a lovely thing.

What's your budget?

Can cost thousands if you're having to pay someone else to do it. Did one of these a couple of years ago now that had stood for years. Body was solid but ended up spending about £1500.00 on just parts alone.

Unless you're prepared to do the work yourself you'll most likely end up spending way more than the car will ever be worth, if the body's badly rotten.

Great little cars though, had a few of them over the years.

Excellent advice already posted, we're currently doing a body resto on a Sprint & the cost will be approx 3 times the value of the completed car excluding the cost of the panels! Best advice is to enroll yourself in a local college evening course for welding & buy the best Mig welder you can afford.......seriously.
Hope this helps? Al.

Have you been on Alfaowner.com? I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions on there!

It might also be joining AROC, or at least checking out their website - lots of Alfa specialists advertise in the magazine (and on the site).

Rob

The main cost of the restoration will be cutting out and replacing all the rust. if you are prepared to do this (I am not) then it is financially worthwhile but in the current market, these cars are not worth much even when in 100% condition. sure, their time will come one day.

PS there are several Sud restoration threads running on the Alfaowner forum but remember there are a number of sources for replacement and original body panels for these cars. Drop me a PM if you need any as I can point you in the right direction.

Felice at Sunnyside Garage is THE man for restorations (reasonably priced too)

He has around 15 cars in his restoration workshop at the moment ranging from a GTAm replica, to guilietta's juniors etc etc...

I'm sure he would be able to help you out.

His Garage is in Chadwell Heath

Just to update this thread, I ended up ebaying his Sud Supersaloon.

My old man found a good 1.5ti Sud and it's currently being fettled by Jamie at the Alfa Workshop.

Thanks once again for your help smile
